I grew up as a gymnast, and when I stopped, I really missed the functional flexibility that came with it. So, in a fairly classic move, I decided to give yoga a go while traveling. I ended up at a retreat in Nepal, where I got my first real insight into not just the physical practice (asana) but the broader teachings of yoga—meditation, shatkarma (cleansing the body and mind), chanting, and even a bit of reflexology.
What really got me interested was the way yoga invites challenge in different ways—not just physically, but also through stillness, presence, and breath. And that’s still what I love about it today. Every time you step on the mat, you have the chance to check in with yourself. Do you need to push your limits and try something new? Find calm within a tricky pose? Or take it easy, letting go of the urge to always chase the most challenging asana (even when your ego wants otherwise)? Only you can answer that, and every day is different.

Supine Twist – That delicious, juicy stretch that releases tension all through the body. Just thinking about it makes me exhale and relax.
Eight Angle Pose – Because sometimes, you just want to feel strong and a little bit bad-ass… as long as I don’t land on my face!
